Albert Einstein said it best: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Sometimes, the best way to change our thinking is to change the way we look at the problems we face. The System Dynamics Loop Generator (SDLG) has been developed to provide support for decision-makers and problem solvers who wish to better understand the dynamics at play in their organisations that may act as obstacles to high performance.

One of the key hurdles to making the right decisions, at the right times, and for the right reasons is the ability to understand why achieving consistently high performance is often blocked. By using the SDLG, it is possible to see where the obstacles are, and identify the key leverage points used to overcome them.

The System Dynamic Loop Generator is divided into two modules. The first module utilises the various system archetypes that represent repetitive patterns of behaviour appearing in organisations of all sectors, of all sizes, and in all cultures. This module contains the key archetypes encountered in organisations and, along with the story that explains the dynamics of each, has an editable version of each archetype that can be saved for future reference or emailed to others in your team or organisation.

The second module of the SDLG has been developed to identify the actual dynamics that are impacting an organisation’s ability to realise its potential. Utilising an easy to use format that includes input buttons to allow you to record both text variables and cause-and-effect directional arrows, this module will illuminate why your organisation is where it is, and how it has arrived there. Many decision-makers use the capability of this module to identify the behaviours explaining how work is actually done in an organisation, as well as how to remove the level of gaming the system that is present in organisations today. As with the archetype module, this module enables you to record and save the structural dynamics that you have identified for sharing and further use.
